LNKBOOT Updates: keep your LNKBOOT plugins and themes up to date from WordPress

WordPress updates, without changing your habits
LNKBOOT Updates plugs into the native WordPress updates. A new version of a LNKBOOT plugin or theme appears in Dashboard › Updates, in the plugins list and in the themes list, in the same place as the others. You install it with the WordPress "Update" button, and WordPress automatic updates work too.
Signed releases, checked before any installation
Every version published on addons.lnkboot.fr carries an Ed25519 digital signature, created with a key that is not on the download server. When WordPress downloads the update, LNKBOOT Updates checks this signature, the file's size and its checksum. An unsigned or altered file is never installed, and WordPress shows why.
Security fixes first
A flaw in a plugin is a common way into a WordPress site. The LNKBOOT Updates page puts security fixes above everything else and flags them in red. These fixes remain available after your update period ends: it is a commitment of our terms of sale.
Updating a premium WordPress theme
A LNKBOOT theme updates from the WordPress Updates screen, like a plugin. The update replaces the theme's files: keep your customizations in a child theme, which no update touches.
One page to follow your LNKBOOT products
Settings › LNKBOOT Updates lists your LNKBOOT plugins and themes: installed version, latest version, license status and release notes. The Licenses and Log tabs are where you enter your keys and follow the checks. The check runs once a day at most, through the WordPress scheduled task, and the "Check now" button runs it on demand.
Licenses and domain, no surprises
For a product bought on addons.lnkboot.fr, you enter the key received with your purchase once, in the LNK-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX format. Your site's domain is registered at the first check from your live site. Your development copies (subdomains, localhost, .local, .test) are covered by the same license. If an update cannot be offered, the page says why, with a link to renew the update period when it has ended.
Compatible with WordPress 6.1 to 7, PHP 7.4 to 8.3
Every version is installed, activated, deactivated and deleted in our integration matrix before publication: WordPress 6.1 on PHP 7.4, 6.4 on PHP 8.1 and 7.1 on PHP 8.3. Products from wordpress.org or another store are not affected: WordPress keeps updating them.
Light and fast
Figures measured on the shipped plugin, compressed with gzip (level 9). On the public site: nothing, no CSS and no JavaScript. In the admin, on the Settings › LNKBOOT Updates page only: 0.4 KB of JavaScript and 0.8 KB of CSS, without jQuery. No network call while a page is displayed: the check runs through the WordPress scheduled task, once a day at most.
Frequently asked questions
Is LNKBOOT Updates free?
Yes, free and GPL licensed. The updates it brings depend on each product's license: a product bought on addons.lnkboot.fr receives its updates during its update period, and its security fixes even afterwards.
Where do updates appear?
Where WordPress shows all the others: Dashboard › Updates, the plugins list and the themes list. You install them with the WordPress "Update" button.
Do WordPress automatic updates work?
Yes. If you enable automatic updates for a LNKBOOT plugin or theme, WordPress installs them on its own, with the same signature, size and checksum checks.
How do I know an update really comes from LNKBOOT?
Every published version carries an Ed25519 digital signature, created with a key that is not on the download server. LNKBOOT Updates checks it at download time. Without a valid signature, nothing is installed and WordPress shows the reason.
What happens if an update fails?
Your site keeps the current version. Since WordPress 6.3, WordPress backs up the plugin or theme before replacing it and restores it if the installation fails. A file rejected by the check is not even unzipped.
Are my theme customizations kept?
An update replaces the theme's files. Put your changes in a child theme: updates of the parent theme never touch it.
Where do I find my license key?
In the confirmation e-mail of your purchase on addons.lnkboot.fr, and in your customer area. It looks like LNK-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX. Enter it once in Settings › LNKBOOT Updates › Licenses. A free product needs no key.
Can I use my license on my development site?
Yes. A license covers your live site's domain and its subdomains (staging, testing), as well as localhost, IP addresses and .local and .test domains. These copies receive updates as long as the license is active.
Does the plugin slow down my site?
No. It adds nothing to the public site and never makes a network call while a page is displayed. The check runs once a day at most, through the WordPress scheduled task, and each call to the update server is limited to five seconds.
What happens if the update server cannot be reached?
Nothing for your site. Your plugins and themes keep working. The LNKBOOT Updates page shows that the last check failed, and the check runs again later.
Are my wordpress.org plugins affected?
No. LNKBOOT Updates only handles LNKBOOT products, which declare it in their header. Plugins and themes from wordpress.org or another store keep being updated by WordPress, as before.
What is left after deleting the plugin?
Nothing. Deleting it removes its settings, your saved license keys, its log and its scheduled task.
